"A native of Waterford city I graduated in fine
furniture making and design from Letterfrack Furniture
College, Connemara, Co. Galway in 1997. Previous to
97' I served a traditional joinery apprenticeship.
I set up a workshop in 98' where I produce furniture
to commission and also clients can order from "The
Vernacular Collection".
This collection was inspired after a study into Vernacular
furniture in Ireland. Distinct features of Irish Vernacular
furniture such as square leg sections, typical double
stretcher rails beneath tables, drawers incorporated
into most table designs and through jointing of components
can be clearly seen in this unique collection of tables
and cabinets.
I was awarded the Crafts Council of Ireland quality
mark for craftsmanship and creativity for the past
three years running and I am the only furniture maker
in the South-East of Ireland to hold the quality mark.
I use native and imported hardwoods from properly
managed forests to produce my furniture which is then
finished in a natural oil.
Currently I have a piece on show at the National
Museum of Ireland in a permanet exhibition called
"Becoming Furniture Becoming"
